Student leadership workshop

On Thursday, 23 February 2012, the head prefects attended a student leadership workshop hosted by De La Salle College. The aim of the workshop was to collectively identify how the student leaders of the AIMHI schools could address the following issues.
  • Leadership in a school community
  • Issues facing our student bodies group session & identification of possible solution.
  • Future strategies to strengthen school relationships
As Head Girl, my experience with this leadership workshop really helped me develop more confidence. It encouraged me to be more aware of the situations that take place within schools – and that it is not just isolated to our school. The head prefects and I got to know other prefects from other schools. We all shared each other’s issues and problems regarding their schools and have interacted with each other for possible solutions. It was a great experience and I know this will benefit us head prefects in future.

Visit of the deputy American Ambassador

Yesterday the deputy American Ambassador visited our school and met with Mr. Uys and our Kapa Haka group. Mr. Uys took the entourage on a tour of our school and he also held talks that could prove beneficial to the running of the Science and Technology departments here at Hillary Collegiate. The American embassy would like to forge links with Science and Technology departments to provide support and expertise in order to help our tamariki develop in those areas. It is a wonderful opportunity for our school and we await to see how the relationship develops.

Leadership day

Year 13 students of Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate, Senior School attended a Leadership day at Willow Park Christian Centre, Eastern Beach in Auckland today. The primary objective of this day  was to inform students about tertiary study pathways. This was to assist students to make informed decisions about  what they want to study, as well as where they want to study.

The tertiary institutions that made presentations were MIT, AUT and AU. Furthermore, the careers advisor Kim Kohere made students aware of the different scholarships they can apply for and how to apply for it. Rob Holloway informed students about Gateway, and the school nurse, Cheryl Grbic, covered  Health issues.

Rhythm Interactive wrapped up the day with a vibrant African drum session! Everyone loved it!

A huge thanks to all the students who exhibited awesome behaviour  and to the deans, Ms van Duyn( Atawhai), Mrs Faleolo(Kahurangi) and Mr Bain(Pounamu) for their support.

Have a great 2012 academic year !
